ENGLISH LEARNER ADVISORY COMMITTEE (ELAC)

ELAC stands for English Learner Advisory Committee. This committee meets the first Thursday (unless there is a holiday and then it is the second Thursday) of each month to develop plans to support both children and their parents for English Language Learners. A meeting is held in October where parents may learn about the types of programs that are offered during the school day to the students that support the learning of English.

In December 2002, El Camino held it's first Kermesse Celebration. A Kermesse loosely translated means "food bazaar". The families bring traditional Mexican foods to an evening event that celebrates literacy, and other fun activities. Families purchase tickets that allow them to sample and taste a variety of authentic Mexican foods. (All types of foods are encouraged to be contributed to this event.)

At the Kermesse our Annual Holiday book fair (a Scholastic Book Event) takes place. Live entertainment is provided by our own students and local community members. It is an event not to be missed!

In the spring, our Primavera Festival, is taken outdoors for a barbecue dinner with more live entertainment and a night of DolphinMania (El Camino's end-of-the-year video featuring every student and staff member!)

ELAC and the PTA co-sponsor all parent and parent-child events.

    Other planned parent-education evenings include:
  • Back-To-School Night (September)
  • Famil Pizza & Movie Night (September-October)
  • Understanding your child's "STAR TEST SCORES" (October)
  • Family Math Night (October)
