SPECIAL SERVICES
El Camino School offers special services based on individual student's needs. There are a number of faculty members who provide these services to the students.
Mrs. Mary Bainou, combined Special Day Class and Resource Specialist, works with students who have been identified as having alearning disability or other special needs through the Child Study process. She is located in Room 10.

The Learning Center Teacher works with students in small group settings, primarily with language arts needs. Mrs. Kathy Gerber works closely with our support staff to coordinate a leveled, pull-in program for our El Camino students.
Mrs. Dee Johnson is the Certificated English Language Specialist. She completes State required assessments on all English Language Learners and subsequently works with students in small groups to assist them in the learning of English. Mrs. Johnson helps determine when students are ready to be reclassified to a higher English proficiency level or to be determined as Reclassified Fluent English Proficient (RFEP). She is at El Camino on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Dr. Jay Fortman and Mrs. Cheryl Forssell are the school psychologists. Dr. Jay provides psychological testing services to students and can be reached on campus on Mondays. Mrs. Forssell provides counseling on Tuesdays and Thursdays. A message may be left for either psychologist by calling the school office at (805) 692-5574.

Ms. Anita Pacheco is the school's Speech and Language Specialist. Ms. Pacheco is at El Camino on Mondays and Tuesdays and screens students for a variety of speech difficulties and provides assistance to students who have been identified as needing speech instruction.

Mrs. Karen Neuenschwander is the school nurse. Nurse Karen completes vision and hearing screening at specified grade levels each year, e.g. kindergarten. She conducts parent interviews when it is appropriate to a child's learning or health needs. She keeps the students' healthcare charts up to date and is at El Camino on Mondays, but can also be reached at other schools if necessary.
